About EVA
European Visual Artists (EVA) represents the interests of authors' collective management societies for the visual arts. 25 European societies are gathered under this roof as members or observers. They manage collectively authors' rights of close to 60 000 creators of works of fine art, illustration, photography, design, architecture and other visual works.
EVA's members are non-profit organisations managing rights for artists as their trustees. Most were founded by artists associations which intended to obtain a functioning legal management and defence of artists' rights. Their mission is to license uses of visual works and to collect royalties on behalf of their members in order to safeguard that the artists always receive an equitable share of the profit third parties gain when exploiting their works. Thus, they facilitate access to works and create legal certainty.
EVA was founded in 1997 by 9 collective management societies for visual arts which are all CISAC members. EVA represents the interests of its members towards the institutions of the European Union. EVA provides information about the work of the collective management societies in the field of visual authors and their defence of author's rights. The recognition of author's rightful claims on remuneration whereever their works are exploited by third parties is an incentive for the richness of the European cultural landscape. Collective management societies play an important role to maintain the Cultural Diversity in Europe. Europe's artists deserve receiving appropriate moral and financial recognition of the added value they grant to society.
Beside the activities on EU level, EVA is also in contact with International bodies such as UNESCO and WIPO where it has the status as formal observer.
